This week in TV

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 4:30 PM
  • Mood: Questionable
  • Listening to: The Presidents ~Jonathan Coulton
  • Reading: The Goose Girl ~Shannon Hale
  • Playing: Harvest Moon
  • Drinking: water.
Spoiler type things follow, though I'm pretty vague on most plot details except for The Mentalist which I kind of go into detail about.

Let's talk TV. Or in one case, the internet equivalent.

Doctor Who: Waters of Mars

This special was, well I'm not sure, exactly. There were a couple of brilliant moments, the story and how it was told was really well done, but... I think we saw a very dark side of the Doctor in this special and then the end... well it was definitely a shock. It was obvious the last scene was a lead in to the second part, The End of Time, and it doesn't look like things get any brighter. But yeah, I think that's about as an intelligent discussion as I can give on that subject at this time.

Though I am looking forward to seeing Donna's Grandfather again. That man is my hero.

Castle:

Oh man, Castle. I love this show so very much. The whole "I was in a bar fight once." scene was fun. Mal never seemed to do very well in his bar fights either.

NCIS:

Most notable this week for the Doctor Who reference. Upon entering a storage container, the agents see that it's full of shelves, a wall of guns, and a computer setup. McGee comments that it's like the TARDIS. Upon briefly explaining that it's the ship from Doctor Who DiNozzo's comment is "Doctor Who? Who watches that?" Yeah, it was funnier watching it.

NCIS: Los Angeles

I missed part of the episode but the team displayed their usual masterly grasp of tactics and saved the day. Callen's 'arguement' with one of the rogue band's members was pretty amusing.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Head in ball return at a bowling alley and a prison suicide that leads to a reinvestigation of the case that sent her there. Nothing really special, though we learned that Greg knows a lot about bowling alley machinery due to a college field trip that he "knew would come in handy some day" and that Ray is really good with figuring out shooting angles. Nothing really special though I hate Sarah a lot less this season.

But where has Archie gone? I haven't seen him in weeks.

The Mentalist.

Oh my god, it was almost like Water of Mars. Just that sort of feeling. Loving secretary turns out to be willing pawn of the creepy serial killer, and takes out her boss and the rest of his team so that Jane would be put back on the Red John case. It was revealed that Red John killed Jane's family to basically create the perfect nemesis, and then the secretary is stabbed with some sort of poisoned blade or needle or something on her way to prison so there will be no more answers from her. And the boss of the department has retired.

Not a very coherent sum up but you get the point. What I find interesting is that both women that have told Jane about Red John, one is blind and met him years ago, the other is the secretary, now deceased, have mentioned his kindness towards them. Both have said that he was very kind, he brought the blind woman presents and played the piano with her. The secretary said that Red John and Jane were similar, that both could look right through a person and see what they were hiding, or something like that. So basically we have a ';player on the other side' type set up. Two apparently similar individuals, both of them the chess master sort on opposite sides of a series of murder cases. Cliche or not, I really want to see where this is going.

So yeah, that was Miranda's week in television.
